UK Time Higher Education (THE) reported the 2015 ranking result of top-100 Asia universities on June 11. A total of 11 schools in Taiwan are within the top 100, and Asia University (AU) is in the list for the second year in an arrow. Being just 14 years old, AU is the youngest top-100 university of all over Asia!
Only two private schools in Taiwan get into the list, namely, China Medical University (CMU) and AU. The two schools have the same founder Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai. The Board of Directors of AU and that of CMU have approved unification of the two universities to form an academic alliance, called “China Asia Associated University (CA2),” which fosters excellence of school running of both universities in recent years. In this year of 2015, CMU is ranked No. 67 in the top-100 Asia-university ranking list, while the younger AU is ranked No. 93. In Taiwan, CMU and AU are the only two private universities in the THE list, and CMU is No. 8 in Taiwan while AU No. 10. AU President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai pointed out that the key factors of AU to enter the ranking list are AU’s excellent performances in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
President Tsai said as well that the 14-years-old AU grows steadily in university affair promotion. Besides its good international rankings, the school has also evaluated to be “a university of teaching excellency” by the Ministry of Education for 11 years consecutively, winning large amounts of teaching project funds from the ministry. Furthermore, the famous magazine Cheers has reported the top 20 school-running universities in Taiwan in February, 2015, and AU was ranked to be the second in the list – a miracle regarded by the academic circle in Taiwan!
President Tsai mentioned in more detail that AU has achieved outstanding performances in diversified fields of research and education, such as biotechnology, medical care, medical cloud computing, semi-conductor simulation technology, long-term care systems, creative design, as well as leisure and recreation management. He revealed that the AU design and invention team has accomplished in recent years remarkable achievements in Malaysia, France, Switzerland, Korea, and many other countries’ international competitions, including 32 Red Dot and IF Design Awards.
“Taking the advantage of continuous development of the school from global-mobility viewpoints, the students of AU are increasingly exposed in the international and global arenas,” emphasized President Tsai. He mentioned as well that in recent years, AU has invited 13 Nobel Laureates to give speeches to or hold symposiums with students and faculty members of AU, promoting their global views of academics and teaching, and that currently there are about 300 international students studying at AU. “AU is really an international university!” said President Tsai.
