The 2019 UK Times Higher Education (THE) Report recently announces the top 300 universities in the Asia-Pacific Region, and Asia University is ranked to be the 5th best private university in Taiwan. Recently, the 2019 UK Times Higher Education (THE) Report announces her ranking of the universities in the Asia-Pacific Region. And Asia University (AU) is ranked to be in the list of the top 300 universities. Specifically, AU is ranked to be in the group of the 181th-190th, the 14th best of both national and private universities, the 5th best private university, and the top non-medical university, all in Taiwan. In the meantime, the famous Cheers Magazine announces the top 20 best school-running universities in Taiwan. The list results from the evaluation conducted by the presidents of 136 universities in Taiwan. The evaluation is mainly based on the outcomes of a set of university performance parameters. AU is ranked as No. 5 in the nation and No. 2 in the private universities in Taiwan. AU President, Jeffrey J. P. Tsai, received the Best School-Running Award granted by the Cheers Magazine Co. from the Deputy Minister of Education, Leether Yao, on February 20. AU has kept into the top 6 for 5 years in a row with other top schools in Taiwan, including National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Tsing Hua University. Contrasting with AU which is just 18 years old, the other top four universities which are ranked by the Cheer Magazine all have long school histories. On the other hand, in the duration of the recent six years from 2014, AU has been evaluated as one of the top-100 universities in various rankings announced by the THE Reports, including the World University Ranking, Asia University Ranking, Asia-Pacific Region Ranking, Emerging Economies University Ranking, and Young University Ranking. It is a great honor for AU, which has so been affirmed as a fast-growing university by both domestic and foreign institutes. The Cheers Magazine points out the reasons why the presidents from other universities recommended AU to be: (1) accelerating international developments and building many innovative teaching and research measures; (2) establishing centers for fast-developing areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), big data, 3D printing, and precision medicine; (3) encouraging students to participate various international contests which aim to rise the international rankings of the university; and (4) holding a so-called Nobel Forum which invites a number of Nobel laureates from all over the world. From the viewpoints of the presidents involved in the evaluation, AU is regarded as a young and full-of-potential comprehensive university. The Dean of Research and Development of AU, Prof. Chih-Yang Huang, said that the latest ranking of the top-100 universities in the Asia-Pacific Region involves an evaluation of universities from 38 countries in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania; more than 300 universities from 13 countries appear in the list. In particular, the China Medical University (CMU), which is also known as one of the two members of the “China Asia Associated University (CA2),” (the other member being AU), is ranked as No. 74 in the world, No. 3 in Taiwan, and No.1 private university, according to the ranking list. The common Chairman of the Boards of Directors of the two schools in the “CA2”, Prof. Chang-Hai Tsai, expects the two schools can put more efforts on all aspects of cooperations, and wishes them to achieve better world university ranking results in the future. In addition, the CMU President, Prof. Mien-Chie Hung, who is also an academician of Academia Sinica in Taiwan, an international famous biomolecular scientist, and a cancer gene expert, expects CMU in the “CA2” to cooperate with other universities to bring biomedical research to a higher level in Taiwan. Finally, AU President Tsai said that AU attempts to strengthen collaborations with CMU and will offer inter-collegiate courses, minor programs, and double-major programs to establish the “CA2” dual degree programs with CMU.
