Asia University held three on-line IEEE international conferences from November 15 to 17, 2021: the 4th IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR); the 5th IEEE International Conference on Robotic Computing; and IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Big Data. Hundreds of participants shared their research findings and discussed the current cutting-edge development of new technologies. Dr. Jeffrey J. P. Tsai, President of Asia University and also the Honorary President of the conferences, invited many celebrated and prestigious scholars to speak, including Audrey Tang, Digital Minister of the Executive Yuan; Dr. Mark Liao, Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica; Professor Leonidas Guibas, Department of Computer Science, Stanford University; Associate Professor Karen Liu, Computer Science Department, Stanford University; Professor Kiyoharu Aizawa, Department of Information and Communication Engineering, University of Tokyo; and Professor Masahiko Inami, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo. Although the pandemic made it impossible to attend the conferences in person, many international scholars still joined the on-line discussions and contributed their expertise to the conferences. President Tsai stated in his opening address: “AU is honored to hold the IEEE conferences in this difficult time of the pandemic. The conferences serve as a platform over which local and international scholars can exchange academic findings with their peer researchers.” Several feature speeches were arranged to engage the audience. Minister Audrey Tang gave a keynote speech on “Digital Social Innovation,” which delineated the possible application of digital technology in our future. He mentioned the ways the technology of artificial intelligence may change our communication style and how the prevention of the abuse of deepfakes will become an urgent matter in our society. In his inspiring talk on “YOLOv4 & Scaled YOLOv4 and their Applications to Smart Transportation,” Dr. Mark Liao addressed how YOLOv4, surpassing Google, Microsoft and Facebook, becomes the most efficient tool in object detection, which in a way fosters the rapid development of intelligent transportation. Other equally inspiring talks include Professor Leonidas Guibas’ “Joint Learning for 3D Perception and Action,” Associate Professor Karen Liu’s “The New Role of Physics Simulation in AI,” Professor Kiyoharu Aizawa’s “Virtual Exploration in a City -- Renovation of Movie Map,” and Professor Masahiko Inami’s “Virtual Cyborg: Beyond Human Limits.” President Tsai concluded the conferences with a promise that AU will continue to support the IEEE conferences and to build up an academic platform for all scholars to discuss the future development of electrical and electronic engineering.; |
