Asia University (AU), under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, led a group of 35 Taiwan universities to attend the "2023 Taiwan Higher Education Fair " in Indonesia. Taiwan delegates of some 90 university representatives were led by Prof. Yinghuei Chen, Dean of the International College, Asia University, to showcase Taiwan quality education to Indonesian students, parents and teachers for recruitment, as Indonesian students are now the second largest group among Taiwan's overseas students. Over the course of five days, three education fairs were staged in Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Jakarta respectively and more than 15,000 participants across Indonesia took part in the event.
The "2023 Taiwan Higher Education Fair " was first started in the Conference Hall at Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city. Mr. Isaac Chiu, Director General of TETO in Surabaya, Prof. Muhammad Madyan, Vice President of Airlangga University, and Prof. Yinghuei Chen, Dean of the International College of Asia University, co-hosted the opening ceremony. Director Isaac stated in his opening remark that Taiwan's higher education has gained worldwide recognition because of its excellent quality and resources, open and free educational atmosphere, and competitive programs of international exchange. Due to Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, Taiwan and Indonesia have established a wide range of educational exchange programs and scholarship programs in recent years.
Dean Chen observed in the opening ceremony that the Taiwan Education Center in Surabaya has organized education exhibitions twice annually for the past six years and each education fair has drawn a sizable number of participants. Taiwan is a high-tech society, democratic and friendly to foreigners. It is particularly known for its quality education and inexpensive tuition fees. Taiwan also offers promising job prospects for foreign students if they choose to stay after graduation. These are the major factors that help attract students from Indonesia, making Indonesia the second largest country of origin of foreign students in Taiwan. It is expected that in a year or two Indonesia will become the largest country in terms of Taiwan overseas students. The other two education exhibitions were held at the Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta (UMY) and the PPM School of Management in Jakarta. Each event has again attracted more than 5,000 students, parents, and teachers to participate.
