Gourangalal Das, President of the Indian Taipei Association Paid a Visit to Asia University

Gourangalal Das, President of the Indian Taipei Association, and Aparna Ganesan, Vice President, recently paid a visit to Asia University (AU). President Das praised the international academic performance of Asia University and expressed the hope that the current cooperative relationship between AU and its Indian counterparts can be further strengthened. AU meanwhile has declared 2023 as "the Year of India."

President Das, fluent in Chinese, has been President of the Indian Taipei Association since July 2020, and has many years of experience in Northeast Asian foreign affairs. He came to visit Prof. Jeffrey J.P. Tsai, President of Asia University, and discussed the current situation and future planning of higher education cooperation between Taiwan and India. They also addressed the issues of Indian students enrolled in Taiwanese universities and their future career prospects in Taiwan for those who will stay after they graduate.

President Tsai observed that Indian students on AU campus are conscientious and diligent, with high academic performance, especially in the fields of information engineering and semiconductors. Many Indian students choose to stay in Taiwan to study for a doctorate or seek employment after they graduate from Asia University. AU also recruits outstanding Indian scholars to teach and conduct research, such as Prof. Brij B. Gupta in the Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering, who was selected as a top 0.1% scientist in the world and is the only scholar selected in the field of computer science from both Taiwan and India in 2022.

President Das praised the superb academic achievements of AU among Taiwan's higher education institutions and he looks forward to building a closer tie with AU, especially in the fields of biomedicine and precision medicine.

After the visit to President Tsai, Prof. Yinghuei Chen, Dean of the International College, accompanied President Das to meet with the 11 joint-degree master students from SASTRA University, India, who enrolled in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at AU for a customized semiconductor program. The students told President Das that they were highly satisfied with their learning at AU because the program provides a good opportunity for them to intern at some leading Taiwan semiconductor companies, Dean Chen mentioned to President Das that AU has already declared 2023 "the Year of India", and he believes that AU, with its quality education and international campus environment, can attract more outstanding Indian students to study.
